PROPOSED changes to children's centres across Dorset have been put to families for feedback.
Dorset Council has launched a public consultation for its plans to 'evolve' the new Family Hub model, which could see some changes to the current network of children’s centres.
This development aims to enhance support for families by providing improved access to services across more community spaces.
Over the years, Dorset Council has supported a network of children’s centres and these centres have adapted to meet changing family needs.
But with the introduction of Family Hubs, the opportunity to build on these foundations and reach even more families has grown.
Family Hubs will provide support for families with children and young people aged 0-25, offering services both through physical locations and an online platform.
This approach will allow Dorset Council to work more closely with community organisations, improving the availability of information and support for families.
As part of this change, Dorset Council proposes repurposing some children’s centre buildings, to bring them in line with the Family Hub model to offer improved services. This could involve relocating services to different community venues.
Dorset Council said it is 'committed' to listening to the voices of local families, making sure that proposed changes reflect their needs and wishes.
The consultation runs from November 21 to February 21, 2025.
Families can share their views via an online survey hosted on the Dorset Council website or by completing physical copies available at local existing children’s centres and Family Hubs.
The consultation will include a detailed overview of the proposed changes, FAQs, and a questionnaire.
Clare Sutton, Dorset Council cabinet member for children services, education and skills, said: “Dorset’s Family Hub initiative is an exciting opportunity to support even more families in our communities.”
“We want to ensure these changes truly reflect what our families need, and your input is vital in shaping this future.”
“I’m so grateful to everyone who takes the time to share their thoughts through the consultation.”
