TWO sheep are missing after the fire service was called to rescue a large herd of sheep.
Firefighters were alerted to reports of around 70 sheep that were stuck on a riverbank this morning (November 24).
On arrival, it was discovered that 66 sheep were self-rescued.
DWFRS rescued two sheep but the remaining two have not yet been found.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said: “At 11.28am we received a call to sheep that were stuck on a riverbank. A crew from Sturminster Newton and a Tech Rescue Team from Weymouth were mobilised.
“There were approximately 70 sheep in total, 66 self-rescued and 2 rescued by DWFRS, leaving 2 unaccounted for.”
In a separate incident, firefighters were called to extinguish a van fire at around 8am in Hinton St Mary.
A spokesperson for DWFRS said: “At 8.07am we received a call to a vehicle fire in Stearts Lane.
“A crew from Sturminster Newton attended and found a van on fire, this was extinguished using 1 hose reel jet.”
