A WOMAN has said she no longer feels safe after her car, and another van, were wrecked on a road becoming notorious for arson.
Amalia Lungu is the latest victim of a spate of attacks in Princess Road in Branksome, with a total of five incidents since September 10.
In the early hours of Sunday, November 24, Amalia was struggling to sleep when she heard two ‘loud booms’ and saw her car engulfed in flames.
She has lived on the road for six and a half years, after choosing to buy a more expensive flat which she believed was in a “safe area”.
“It has been safe for so many years, it really has been amazing,” said Amalia.
She added: “We saw the other cars [being set on fire], but it wasn’t affecting us so bad, although we knew the risk.
“You don’t feel the distress, the upsetness, the disappointment, the frustration until it’s you.”
Amalia said she is ‘devastated and heartbroken’ following the incident with her family fearing for her safety and asking for her to move.
“I don’t have tears anymore to cry after how much I cried yesterday trying to speak to the police.”
Days before the latest incident, residents gathered to raise their concerns to police at a community meeting.
APS Douglas and PCSO Hayhurst recommended residents set up a Neighbourhood Watch group, adding they are the “eyes and ears”.
BCP Council is also working with the police to improve lighting and the condition of the road which may facilitate crime.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at around 2.40am on Sunday 24 November 2024 of a vehicle fire in Princess Road in Poole.
“The fire service extinguished the fire and it was reported that the fire was believed to have been caused deliberately.
“It was further reported that damage had been caused to a second vehicle and a nearby post box.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing. No arrests have been made.”
A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Princess Road, Poole at 2.33am on Sunday (24 November) for a van well alight.
“A crew from Westbourne attended and found the fire had also spread to an adjacent car.
“One breathing apparatus wearer and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire, and our stop was at 3.17am.
“The fire is believed to be suspicious so the incident was left with the police.”
