A COUPLE who live at the same dementia care home are able to celebrate their 58 anniversary due to the help of carers.
Pam and her husband Tony were able to celebrate their anniversary with a candlelit meal at The Aldbury in Poole.
The Aldbury serves as a place for birthday parties and relatives' visits, as well as a space for activities and meetings of the resident's gardening club.
Pam and Tony are residing at the Colten Care home after moving there two years ago.
They are the only married couple living at the home.
The two shared a private meal in The Retreat, the garden summerhouse at The Aldbury.
Tony was the one who came up with the name 'The Retreat', stating that it felt like a retreat to him the first time he walked in.
The pair got dressed up for the occasion, with Tony wearing his best dinner jacket accompanied by a colourful shirt and a tie.
Pam had her hair styled especially for their date, and also wore pink as she remembered wearing a pink dress on their first date in the 1960's.
Pam and Tony had their food presented to them by The Aldbury's chef Neil Fletcher.
Melissa Siat, a member of the companionship team was also present at the meal, dressed up as a 'French waitress', making sure the pair were comfortable.
She said: “Their faces lit up when they walked into The Retreat.
"We had decorated it with candles, heart shaped balloons and a Happy Anniversary banner.
"We also made sure there was jazz music playing in the background which was a special request from Tony.
“Once they were sitting at the table, he surprised Pam with a bunch of flowers that he had picked from the garden the day before and a box of chocolates.
“The date brought back a lot of lovely memories for them.
"Tony started to remember the time they had a date at the Grosvenor Hotel in Chester. Pam said they didn’t have much money then and her generous mum offered to pay for their meal.”
The Aldbury home manager Martin Corrigan said: “We are so happy to have enabled this lovely, devoted couple to remake happy memories and reminisce on their time spent together. It was truly special occasion to celebrate.”
