SUSAN Stockwell continually writes about the environment and cycle lanes.

Just imagine for a moment, supposing we had cycle lanes all around the BCP conurbation and of the width and connectivity that Susan would like to see.

Does she honestly believe that they will be used to the extent, whereby it would reduce dramatically the number of cars on the road.

Me thinks the lady is living in cloud cuckoo land, as Susan paints a sorry picture of the state of the roads and congestion in her letter 27th Nov.

However, Susan’s answer to the state of the roads, traffic, and almost everything else in the conurbation is, wait for it…. cycle lanes.

At the end of her letter, Susan says “If you know anyone who still grumbling about traffic lights and cycle lanes, please tell them to do the maths”

In answer to this I’m sure that everyone who travels in the conurbation, will notice how little used the cycle lanes are, you don’t need maths to work that out.

Never in the foreseeable future will enough people cycle in the numbers needed to significantly reduce the number of cars on the road.

Surely even Susan can work out the maths on that one and if she looks around the conurbation, she will see that hardly anyone uses the cycle lanes, and it will be forever so.
