A SLEEP out that took place in Southbourne has raised over £13,000 for homelessness charity Centrepoint.
On November 16, a group of people got together to brave the cold and sleep outside to raise money for Centrepoint.
Centrepoint is a charity that helps to combat youth homelessness across the UK.
The sleep out organised by Mark Kedgley raised £13,466 including Gift Aid.
Mark previously told the Daily Echo that he organised the sleep out because he wanted to join a Centrepoint sleep out, but there weren't any near BCP so he decided to create his own.
Reflecting on the recent sleep out, Mark said: "I am overwhelmed by the support that everyone gave to this event, from Rich Slater at SOBO Beach for giving us the venue to use, and Scott Oliver from the SOBO team who looked after everyone all night.
"The sleepers who gave up a night’s sleep to raise awareness of the realities for those that are forced to sleep rough, and of course, all the generous sponsors."
"All money has gone to Centrepoint, the youth homelessness charity, who will be busy over Christmas helping those that need it most."
The sleep out received a good response from the attendees, with multiple people stating how it opened their eyes.
Attendee Sharon Miller said: "First time I have done something like this, but it was a humbling experience, enjoyed every minute, met some wonderful people."
Another attendee Debs Broadbent said: "I was so glad to sleep in my own bed last night.
"It really makes you appreciate what we have, doesn’t it?"
Jo Broadbent added: "It was so great, a mix of fun and being so thought provoking."
Mark states that there was a mystery man who provided curry dishes for all the rough sleepers for the night, and wants to express his gratitude and thanks.
Catherine Mosley from Centrepoint stated that: "On behalf of everyone at Centrepoint, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your amazing efforts in organising and taking part in the sleep out at SOBO Beach.
"Your dedication, motivation, and commitment to raising awareness and funds for young people facing homelessness are truly inspiring.
"The impact of your sleep out will be felt far and wide, from providing safe housing to funding essential services like mental health support, education, and training for vulnerable young people."
