A ROCK legend and a TV news anchor won honorary doctorates from Bournemouth University yesterday.
Andy Summers spent his teenage years in Bournemouth before achieving huge success as the guitarist in the Police.
He told the Daily Echo: “It’s a very significant award – all my early thoughts on a career came from Bournemouth – it’s good to come back.”
ITV news anchor Mark Austin went to Bournemouth School and started his career at the Daily Echo.
He said: “I feel a bit of a fraud because my wife is a real doctor and it took her seven years of study!
“It’s very inspiring – so many of these young people see journalism as a valuable profession.”
Both men were honoured at the media school’s graduation ceremony at the BIC.
Daily Echo editor Neal Butterworth presented the Daily Echo award for the best news journalist to Paul Burbidge.
