A 61-YEAR-old woman died when the car she was travelling in was in collision with two other vehicles on the A338 at Breamore near Fordingbridge on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, from Weston-super-Mare, died at the scene.

She was the front seat passenger in a blue Vauxhall Astra driver by her partner, a 76-year-old man, who suffered minor injuries.

All three vehicles were travelling north when the collision occurred just before 4pm.

The other vehicles involved were a Leyland DAF lorry driven by a 52-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and a Land Rover Freelander driven by a woman from Fordingbridge.

The lorry driver was bailed to hospital and was expected to be interviewed by police yesterday.

Police closed the road for six hours while they examined the scene and the wreckage was removed.

Diversions were set up at Downton and south of Breamore via Woodgreen.

l An 87-year-old Bridport man who collapsed at the wheel on a busy A-road has died.

The man was driving his red Ford Fiesta on the A35 at Winterbourne Abbas at 8.25am yesterday when it left the road and ended up on the grass verge. Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, where he was pronounced dead. No other vehicles were involved.
