IT was third time lucky for an artist from Burton who is celebrating having a painting accepted into the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Georgina Rowbottom, from Stony Lane, went to art college many years ago, but when she got married, life became busy and her passion for painting unfortunately took a back seat.

Twelve years ago, Georgina, 70, ran into a fellow student who was studying at the same time as her and encouraged her to take it up again.

Since then she hasn’t looked back and has submitted entries to the academy twice before, with success on her third attempt.

She said: “Many people try for years and years to get a painting hung in the Royal Academy so I am delighted.

“Usually I specialise in abstract art, but the piece they have accepted is neither abstract nor figurative.”

Georgina will be holding an exhibition at the Will and Em Gallery in Minstead in July.
