THE first ever Christchurch Community Celebration in Saxon Square and Druitt Gardens has been hailed a success.
The mayor opened Saturday’s event, a date chosen to commemorate the ancient Trinity Fair, and there was a wealth of activities including a dragon dance, stalls and historic tours.
Co-organiser Nicky Burt, who worked with a team of 13 others to stage the event, said: “It was to bring the community together to celebrate the town and the heritage and the community.
“It was a great atmosphere.”
Around 50 groups, clubs and societies took part and shared what they do, and organisers were given help to fund the event from Waitrose and Christchurch Community Partnership.
They also want to thank Christchurch council for their support.
Next year’s event will be held on May 29.
