BOURNEMOUTH’S Lower Gardens will double up as an open-air cinema this summer, showing a mix of family films, Wimbledon and Formula One.
The large outdoor LED screen is part of the town’s Summer Live 2009 initiative – a programme of fun family events.
The screen will be in action from tomorrow, when it will be showing the films Shrek, The Italian Job and Toy Story.
The same films will be shown again on Saturday and Sunday, along with the British Grand Prix qualifying heat and race.
And from Monday, Bourne-mouth will have its very own “Murray Mount” as the screen is devoted to all the latest action from the grass courts of Wimbledon.
It is hoped the screen will entice residents, visitors and workers on their lunch breaks to pack a picnic and join in the fun. Food kiosks will also be selling strawberries and cream to help recreate a Wimbledon atmosphere.
Summer Live 2009 will also feature a 40s style event, fashion weekend and children’s activities.
Bournemouth will host its own fashion weekend on July 25 and July 26, combining stunning free shows, professional models and talented designers’ creations spanning high street fashions to one-off collections.
A model search competition will be held and there will be catwalk training for the finalists. The winner will secure a modelling contract.
There will be hair demonstrations, make-up shows, makeovers and dancing. For more details contact 01202 830204 or paul@bigbearevents.co.uk
