Local music promoters, Devils Music have been on the scene creating opportunities for musicians for close to 5 years and their open mic/local music showcase night; The Playground has been active since the beginning. Over the years it has moved days and venues, but it's core has stayed the same. It has seen nearly every local musician come through its doors at one time or another and is proud have seen the birth of local acts that we have come to know and love.
In July 2009 the brand, The Playground will be put to bed and a new era of live music with Devils Music will start. Instead of the ever changing line up of bands that The Playground embodied, a more 'residency' style of event will take its place, allowing 4 local acts to rotate every month and organise their own event giving them the experience and fantastic opportunity to host and also perform. From promotions to bookings, dealing with venues and with full support of Devils Music, this offers the band behind the scenes practice of running their own gig.
Trevor from Devils Music had this to say: "When we started doing events there were not as many opportunities to play live music in Bournemouth and so our motivation was to give local bands a chance to play. As Bournemouth's music scene has grown, many more people have started putting on their own local events and because of this there are plenty of places offering local music showcases and open mic nights. When we sat down to decide the direction of Devils Music, we decided that we didn't want to compete with these great nights around Bournemouth so decided to make our Thursday nights more 'band orientated'. So for the next 6 months you will have 6 chances to watch these great bands perform in Bournemouth... exclusively, and in doing this you will be enabling the bands to expand and will be supporting their development."
The line up will be start from July at The Winchester:
Every first Thursday: Achilles.
Every second Thursday: New Volunteer
Every Third Thursday: Otto
Every Fourth Thursday: Looking Through Glass
