NEVER mind that Ireland’s most popular light entertainer is now in his late 40s – and married – to his countless female fans he’ll always be their ever-young Danny Boy.
Playing to a packed house, Daniel O’Donnell’s pleasant voice, engaging personality and feelgood blend of music, was given smoothly professional backing from his band and vocal support from his stunning guest, Mary Duff. Along with the Irish blarney tales, dance steps and flashy jackets, it all made for excellent entertainment.
There were country tibites to Jim Reeves including He’lll have To Go and, with Mary Duff, Hank Williams’ Hey Good Looking. He swung the pelvis for an All Shiook Up in Blue Suede Shoes and among his homeland favourites were Isle of Innisfree, Wild Irish Rose and, of course, the obligatory Danny Boy.
He was hilariously romantic as Renato to Mary Duff’s Renee with Save Your Love For Roma and Me. And for an encore, the reggae flowing Waters of Babylon was followed by the uplifting hymn How Great Thou Art.
Daniel O’Donnell certainly delivered ansd his fans were more than delighted.
