BRIDGE Street in Christchurch is closed due to a small but constant leak of petrol in the road's storm drains.
The police have closed the roads to traffic with a fire crew and the environmental support unit from Gillingham along with Wessex Water working at the scene and ventilating the storm drains.
Poole station manager, Keith Barnes, said: "This is a small incident, which is being controlled. We have asked the police to close Bridge Street and for people to avoid the area, especially at rush hour, to avoid unnecessary congestion.
"The incident could be protracted until the source of the leak is found."
