RESIDENTS anxious to raise money to enable the building of a new community centre in Christchurch have clubbed together – to buy a brick.
Carol Hellicar from Mudeford wrote to all of her neighbours to ask if they would be willing to contribute something towards her target of £250 for the brick.
Carol said: “I really wanted to help but it was difficult to justify £250 for one of the bricks. I thought if we all banded together we might be successful.
“I knew I was being a bit cheeky writing my letter to everyone but I had a lovely response from more than half of the households in the road, so around 30 of them made a contribution.”
Deputy mayor Cllr Josephine Spencer said: “I’m delighted that the residents of Bure Haven Drive have made this very generous contribution to buy a brick for the new community centre.
“We hope that other roads in the borough might take their example and consider buying a brick as well. If every road did this we would soon reach our target!”
