A MAN sat on his car bonnet in a two-and-half-a-hour stand-off with bailiffs and police.

Nigel Sellick, of Ensbury Park, stopped them taking his V-Reg Vauxhall Astra for alleged unpaid council tax.

The 43-year-old claimed he’d never received the proper paperwork and staged his protest in Barnes Crescent from 11am yesterday.

Even when the front wheels were loaded onto a truck, Mr Sellick said he told them: “I will stay on it all the way to Ferndown.”

He said the garage driver refused to take the car on healthy and safety grounds, and the police left because it was a civil matter, and they could only use force when it is necessary.

Mr Sellick said he’d already sold the car for £1,000 to a friend.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Officers attended because of a potential breach of the peace. The bailiff decided not to repossess the car.”
