Children from across Bournemouth are being invited to Boscombe Beach this month to celebrate the town’s ‘Festival of Sport’.

Saturday 26 June will see sports clubs join together at Boscombe Beach to offer free sessions on a range of sporting activities. From volleyball, rugby, beach soccer, golf, surf lifesaving and many more, the day is set to be a perfect opportunity for school children to ‘have a go’ at a sport of their choice.

Matt Lloyd, Bournemouth Council’s Coastal Recreation Officer and ‘Festival of Sport’ organiser, said; "Encouraging youngsters to try out different sporting activities can sometimes be an uphill struggle. The idea behind the ‘Festival of Sport’ is to raise awareness of the range of sports available in Bournemouth, and this year we want to especially focus on the exciting activities available down here on the beach. By providing free taster sessions, youngsters can see if they are interested in a particular sport without having to pay a penny. It’s also an opportunity for parents to explore the many sports coaching opportunities available. This is set to be a fun day out for the family.

Councillor Anne Filer, Cabinet Member for Leisure & Tourism, said; “This is Bournemouth’s tenth ‘Festival of Sport’ event and I am delighted that we are celebrating it at Boscombe Beach in our Bicentenary Year. Recently we have had some really exciting events take place on Boscombe seafront and this is an ideal opportunity for those who have not yet visited Boscombe to come and experience the bustling and welcoming atmosphere it has to offer. I would like to invite all school children to come along and ‘have a go’ at some of the exciting activities planned for the day.”

The ‘Festival of Sport’ will take place on Saturday 26 June from 10am – 3pm at Boscombe Beach by Toft Steps. For further information please contact Matt Lloyd on 01202 451783 EVERYONE WELCOME - SPREAD THE WORD AND SEE YOU THERE!!!!
