AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Mitchell said he does not think vuvuzelas will become a problem after the World Cup, but did not back a blanket ban.

The plastic horns have been driving some football fans mad during the World Cup and one Bournemouth councillor has called for an embargo at Dean Court should the craze catch on here.

Mr Mitchell, the club chairman, said: “If people want to do something which isn’t breaking the law, they should be allowed to do it.

“On a personal note, I think that they are fine in South Africa, but I don’t think they will catch on in this country.

“I think by and large people should be able to blow them if they want to – though if anybody sat next to them had a problem, it would probably end up getting broken.

“I honestly don’t see it being an issue.”

He added: “But if it does take off, then we will have to start selling them.”

Daily Echo readers voting online over the weekend were 66 per cent in favour of a ban at AFC Bournemouth games.
