IT’S the coast with the most. That was the verdict from 13-time UK windsurfing champion Guy Cribb yesterday as he attempted to set a new world record for doing the most watersports in one day to highlight what’s on offer in Bournemouth and Poole.

Guy chose yesterday because it was the longest day of the year and he started out in Boscombe at 6am before making his way along the coast to Poole via Bournemouth Pier, Sandbanks, Brownsea Island, Poole Quay, Poole Park and Rockley Point.

Along the way he aimed to try more than 25 different watersports, including surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding, windsurfing, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, sailing and kite-surfing.

Guy told the Daily Echo: “It’s the coast with the most and you’ve got to test it! The tourist board and myself were talking through some ideas and it just arrived.

“We’re even going to Poole Park and doing the pedalos, which anyone can do.

“You get very fit windsurfing and windsurfing is the pinnacle of the sports; if you can windsurf you can do anything else, so it’s pretty easy today. We’re more up against the time to fit so many sports in.

“Luckily the sports are in this area of coast and we’re fitting them all in.”

Guy, from Poole, has more than 20 years windsurfing experience, first becoming UK Youth champion in 1988 and winning countless races around the world since.

In 2008 he became the first person to windsurf across the Channel, 70 miles from Cherbourg to Poole.
