A MAN stabbed in the head in an unprovoked attack has enjoyed the holiday which he might never have expected to take.

Nick Verron was attacked with a screwdriver in the assault in Boscombe last July.

But he has recovered well enough to take a holiday in Spain.

His mum, Sue Vincent, said: “I can’t tell you how much the holiday means to Nick. Even while he was in a coma, friends were leaving messages saying, ‘See you in Spain next year’. He has been utterly determined to go.”

Left for dead by his attacker, 18-year-old Jason Teelin – now serving a seven-year jail term for grievous bodily harm with intent – Nick was not expected to survive his injuries.

His family’s agony was compounded when his family faced eviction, but the incredible generosity of Daily Echo readers produced more than £4,000 to clear the family’s rent arrears.

But even those closest to him have been amazed by a recovery begun in the neurological unit of Southampton Hospital and continuing at the Lloret De Mar resort in Spain.

Nick returned to his parents’ home on Sunday to resume his steps to recovery.
