POLICE are warning householders to be on their guard against opportunist thieves making rich pickings from the sunny weather.
Insecure windows and doors have paved the way for a record 60 burglaries in Bournemouth and Poole during the past fortnight alone.
Crime reduction advisor John Green said: “The average burglar is an opportunist but people are making it far too easy.
“Hot weather brings out burglars, because homeowners are moving into the garden, leaving front doors and windows insecure with handbags and purses on display or going out and forgetting to lock their doors, patios and windows.
“During the hot weather homeowners need to consider the security of their homes as well as their own enjoyment.”
