CONTINUING her long association with music and dance, Dorset artist Abi Kremer has unveiled a new collection of paintings and mixed-media pieces on show at Lighthouse, Poole until October 9.

The work on show in Colour Rhythms finds Abi pursuing a new direction – a surreal fantasy interpretation of the moving figure – while the process of masking, washes and stippling is an integral discipline in these paintings and prints.

Music and dance have long been an inspiration to Abi’s work and when the Lighthouse opened as Poole Arts Centre in 1978, she held its first exhibition in conjunction with Ballet Rambert. Colour Rhythms also includes some of this original work, along with new pieces inspired by Pure Funk, Bournemouth and Poole’s leading commercial street dance company.

Also on show are rhythm works inspired by the woodland area around Holton Lee, where through a long standing project Abi has responded to the special quality of light and atmosphere.

A recently published book about her work – Abi Kremer Colour and Inspiration: 1979-2009 – will be on sale to accompany the exhibition and on Saturday the Europa String Choir will perform at the exhibition from 5.30pm.
