BOWLS: BOURNEMOUTH AND DISTRICT BA MEN

RUSSELL Morgan teamed up with Brian Redmond, Bernie Vallis and Stan Jordan (27-14) as Boscombe Cliff edged near their fifth consecutive B&D title with a 78-77 verdict to earn 10 points against Ringwood whose premier rink consisted of Richard Lawrence, John Thomas, Roy Leake and Peter Ward (25-8).

That 78-77 scoreline was duplicated at Wessex who slipped up 10-4 to Knyveton Gardens. Jeff Mann, Bob Osler, David Swindells and Richard Garrett (24-18) fired Knyveton and Chris Lawrence, Dave Gibb, Keith Michael and Malcolm Peters (19-13) bolstered Wessex.

Southbourne's relegation headache became a migraine after a 12-2 (77-64) setback against fellow strugglers Wimborne who were best served by Richard Sweatland, Ian Napleton, Brian Shepherd and Leon Pope (25-15). Jim Hesford, Dave McKenna, Keith Norman and Tony Tarrant (20-14) cheered Southbourne.

A 26-9 card from Kevin O'Connell, Alec McGregor, Mark Wanklyn and Derek Ames kept Alexandra Park in the title hunt 13-1 (87-54) against Branksome Park whose blushes were spared by Dave King, Edmund Sandell, Graham Cox and Paul Tidby (18-18).

Colin Bingley, Kevin Saunders, David Sewell and Chris Dowding (29-13) proved the difference when Bournemouth staged a 10-4 (84-76) raid on Poole Park whose main men were Mo Foord, Clive Fawkes, Peter Wilson and Bob Atkins (23-11).

SECTION TWO

NEW Milton on a high after their Hampshire heroics pipped promotion rivals Fordingbridge 78-77 to land 12 vital points. Paul Willis, Bob Burns, Trevor Rock and Brian Jones (27-21) were tops for Milton with Jim Wych, Chris Martin, Cyril Copp and Derek Purse (22-13) best for 'Bridge.

The survival prospects of Branksome Park A and Highcliffe plummeted after heavy defeats.

Branksome were whitewashed 92-70 by Boscombe Cliff A Gary Taylor, Dennis Moss, Derrick Pavey and Keith Varley (23-14) the trail-blazers while Highcliffe buckled 12-2 (103-54) at West Moors whose stars were John March, Dave Dickson, Ray Hunt and John Hamilton (30-10). David Grindon, Trevor Welch, Ken Wright and Stan Patch (20-19) consoled Highcliffe.

A 38-11 scorcher from George Paddington, Adrian Morris, Ray Southgate and Ken Riley carried Braeside to their 12-pointer (99-58) against Pelhams whose saviours were Mike Perry, Mike Tester, Cyril Jeans and Bob Robins (17-14).

Jim Way, Brian Clarke, Brian McCoy and Mike Elkins erased a 14-6 teatime deficit to triumph 23-15 and point Electric to a 10-4 (80-72) success against Richmond Park. David Daman, Derek Postill, Roy Milton and Wally Draper (20-15) were the Richmond stalwarts.

SECTION THREE

LYMINGTON clocked up a century when sinking promotion-chasers Argyll 12-2 (100-66). Ken Carter, Ken Priddle, Reg Robinson and Danny Watson (35-15) powered the Foresters with Eddie Travers, Ron Lawson, John Cuff and Paul Debnam (17-14) replying for Argyll.

Tony Davis, Len Tolladay, David Glascodine and Rex Gale (32-11) were the Knyveton Gardens A sparklers in the 10-4 (88-77) win against Wessex A whose heroes were Ashley Leaper, Alan Brittain, John Hall and Ray Moulton (26-14).

Boosted by the 30-10 beauty from Angus Kennedy, Tony Perry, Ray Rankine and Paul Turner, Southbourne A polished off Wimborne A 12-2 (93-68). Eddie Hawkins, Tony Skidmore, Terry Middleton and Colin Shew (21-17) bit back for the Minstermen.

David Wanklin, Tony Nelson, Tony Wanklin and Alan Tavener (26-11) steered Moordown to their 10-4 (77-71) result at Christchurch whose mainstays were Joe Spicer, Bill Whitcher, Brian Graham and John Bishop (19-13).

SECTION FOUR

JIM Green, Derek Smith, David Highland and Mike Keats produced a 44-4 monster when Swanage spanked Braeside 12-2 (105-60). Mike Beard, Ivor Passmore, Mike Bull and John Burbridge (24-17) saved Braeside from oblivion.

Ringwood A put Ferndown to the sword 14-0 (86-72) with Ed Melton, Bernie Fenner, Den Newham and Brian Terry (23-17) and Jim Sillitoe, Arthur Waller, Jack Harris and Nigel Brown (21-16) leading the victory parade.

Pacemakers New Milton A are in sight of the title after their 11-point (83-72) victory at Poole Park B and the 10-4 (73-71) final-end home defeat of second-placed Redhill Park by West Moors A.

Stan Bolding, Mac Macartney, Keith Young and Ray Green (27-11) were Milton's top dogs with Jim Buckman, Bob Wilson, Ernie Kendrick and Colin Ansell (26-11) heading Poole's effort.

Richard Rogers, Bill Archer, Mike Briggs and Ken Parker (23-13) roused West Moors and David Mould, Arthur Saunders, Bob Kitchenham and Bob Dixon (24-12) were Redhill's frontrunners.

A 34-14 bonanza from Jim Dustan, Colin Haynes, Ralph Johns and John Reeves swept Bournemouth A to their 10-pointer (84-78) against Poole Park A whose prize guys were Alan Hardy, Chris Euripidou, John Potter and John Hobby (29-20).

SECTION FIVE

KINGS Park inched closer to safety with a 12-2 (107-69) roasting of Redhill Park. Bob Jones, Arthur Little, Stan Barnett and Ted Greenwood (37-16) were the Kings jewels with Roy Saunders, Derek Savage, Andy Davies and John Rumball (23-22) soothing Redhill.

Vittorio Gariano, Dennis Dymott, Brian Pearce and Brian Devine (35-10) were red-hot as Richmond Park A tamed Lymington A 10-4 (83-75), Geoff Mapes, Ken Farrar, Ian Shiell and Brian Marchant (30-9) faring almost as well for the Foresters.

High-flying Swanmore stumbled 11-3 (80-66) at Boscombe Cliff B whose biggest contributors were Maurice Ballard, Roger Anthony, Tony Green and John Jupp (24-10). Toni Norte, Richard Free, Mick Terry and John Field (21-17) were the Swanmore sharpshooters.

A 33-7 ripsnorter from Derek Newland, Colin Baker, Ken Penfold and Viv Bailey propelled Milford to a 9-5 (74-70) success at Argyll A. Arthur Lawrence, Dennis Winfield, Trevor Jarvis and Brian Gatrill (24-12) fortified Argyll.

The shots margin was even closer for Pelhams A who shaded West Moors B 10-4 (70-67). Arthur Fish, Cliff Webster, Brian Openshaw and Roy Pearce (22-12) underpinned Pelhams while Terry Hester, John Frost, John Price and John McIntyre (19-10) ignited West Moors.

In a re-arranged match Pelhams were slammed 14-0 (93-60) by rampant Milford who had David Summers, Stan Bristow, Rod Somerton and David Hall (31-13) in great shape.

SECTION SIX

SOUTHBOURNE B blasted Highcliffe A 12-2 (96-60) with Alan Primett, Chris Broomfield, Gwyn Davies and Jeff Bliss (26-9) dominant. Peter Morgan, Ian Ewance, Graham Davies and Peter Haworth (17-15) pepped Highcliffe.

Geoff King, Chris Danks, Malcolm Long and Vic Pegram (24-15) inspired Ferndown to their 13-1 (99-77) mauling of Iford Bridge A while a 31-6 sizzler from Albert Broom, Murray Bacon, Mark Grimes and John Kellow did the trick for Knyveton Gardens B in an 8-6 (83-74) win at Swanmore A. George Williamson, Bert Mott, Barry Cross and Mike Pearson (26-14) led the Swanmore resistance.

Only one shot in it (74-73) but New Milton B bagged a 12-pointer at Wimborne B thanks chiefly to John Drake, Peter Spink, Peter Kearsey and Ken Frost (20-16). John Gibbons, Bob Briggs, Denis King and Roy Campbell (22-15) lifted Wimborne.
