SECONDARY school league tables published today reveal mixed fortunes for schools across Dorset and Hampshire.

In Poole, Ashdown and Poole High, which have both recently been given notices to improve, recorded lower GCSE results than last year.

And Rossmore Community College was ranked 11th worst in the country for the national benchmark for GCSEs.

Of the non-selective schools only two in Bournemouth and two in Poole were above the the national average of 53.1% of pupils gaining 5 GCSES at A-C including English and Maths.

Bournemouth’s Winton Arts and Media College, recently placed in special measures, also had a slight drop in the percentage of students gaining at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and maths.

Carter Community School in Poole also saw a drop of 11 percentage points.

Schools with dramatic improvements include Avonbourne, Glenmoor, Oakmead, St Peter’s, Corfe Hills, Ferndown Upper, Gryphon, Lytchett Minster, QE, Arnewood and Ringwood.

Di Mitchell, Service Director for Children’s learning and Engagement in Bournemouth said the average result in Bournemouth was 56.5 per cent, five per cent higher than last year and higher than the national average.

She added: “We are really proud that, for the fifth year in a row, the results in Bournemouth have continued to improve and that we have again achieved our best ever results. We will continue to work towards further successes and supporting schools that require additional support.”
