The Caped Crusader – in female form – will head out on to the streets on Friday, May 20, after putting her children to bed.

Mum Lisa Johnston from Southbourne, Bournemouth, is a woman on a mission – and that task is to right wrongs by raising funds for Julia’s House.

Lisa will be joining Batman, Superman, Superwoman and hundreds of other comic strip characters at Bournemouth’s Pier Approach, striding out on the Superheroes Nightwalk at 10pm.

The entrants, mostly in fancy dress, will be joining a three or five-mile walk along the seafront to raise money for the children’s hospice charity.

For Batwoman Lisa, 41, this is a cause very close to her heart because her daughter Kitty, two, is cared for by the hospice team.

The toddler has a condition that means her larynx or voicebox is very soft and limp and hypotonia, low muscle tone.

“I am really passionate about Julia’s House,” said Lisa.

“It is much more than just a place for sick children, it is there for the whole family and that is so important.”

Poppy, 12, Reuben, nine and Jude, six, have enjoyed the charity’s siblings events while Willow, three, gets a bit more time with mum while Kitty is being cared for.

“The support it has offered both to Kitty and her brothers and sisters is truly invaluable. It’s an inspirational place, I love it to bits,” said Lisa.

“Since Kitty was born a lot of people have asked me what they can do to help. Well, this is what they can do – they can do the Nightwalk, because it is events like this, events that keep Julia's House going, that make the world of difference to families like ours.

“The Nightwalk is an easy way to show you care. It’s a fun walk that anyone can do,” she said.

It costs £10 to register with every penny of sponsorship going to help children like Kitty. Call 01202 607400 or email nightwalk@juliashouse.org.
