OSCAR-WINNER Julian Fellowes will be opening Dorset’s newest cinema when it shows his film Time to Time.
The grand opening of the cinema – made possible by a £3,500 Big Lottery Fund grant – will be on Thursday, May 12 at Powerstock in West Dorset.
Adrian Semmence of the Powerstock Village Hall management committee said they were also in the process of developing a website – Powerstock cinema.co.uk – and distributing brochures to houses in the villages.
Mr Semmence said: "Powerstock is at the centre of a parish of five small rural villages in West Dorset and the aim of our project is to get the community together to join in more activities.
“We thought a community cinema would help to do that.
“Some people in our community, such as young or older people, may not have access to transport so the cinema will be a great way to get them more involved.
“We also have a number of holiday cottages in the local area so we would welcome visitors to our villages to join in while they are here.
“We hope to get the cinema up and running in early May and we’ll be wanting locals to tell us what sort of films they would like us to show.
“Initially we'll be showing films once a month but our long term aim is to encourage the community to use the facility in different ways, such as for private showings or music events.”
The grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme was part of a £652,590 pay out for the South West.
