FOR THE first-time ever, a child has made it into Glamour magazine’s Best Dressed list.
According to the mag, little Suri Cruise – daughter of Tom and actress Katie Holmes – has the most covetable wardrobe in Hollywood.
Indeed she has. If you are 25.
If, like Suri, you are just five, all these designer handbags, heeled shoes and couture frocks are downright creepy.
Far from being something to celebrate, seeing a little girl posing and preening and parading accessories that cost the equivalent of feeding an African village for a month is quite horrible.
When you’re grown up you have to hawk vast amounts of rubbish around, so you need a handbag.
Make-up is something you use to try and make yourself look more attractive or to plaster over the ravages of time on your face.
And the only reason high heels are worn is because they make your legs look slimmer.
So it’s depressing to see a little girl kitted out like this.
I may be wrong, but Suri doesn’t look like the kind of kid who’s ever rolled down a hill, shrieking with laughter. Or splashed naked in her own paddling pool, or worn the same T-shirt five days running just because she likes the pattern on it.
Katie Holmes, has spoken of her daughter being her fashion critic, saying: “She’ll really tell me what she thinks… she’s got a great eye.”
At five?
Sorry, but I think I’d much rather my five-year-old had a talent for art, or riding her pony.
And if she is ever allowed to do these things, so, I bet, would Suri.
