HERE are three young ladies soon to be hitting opponents for six.

Nine years after three Poole Town cricketers celebrated a very special hat-trick, their daughters have now helped form the club’s first girls’ team.

Back in the summer of 2002, the Daily Echo featured the births of Lizzie Williams, Jessica Boyd and Sarah-Louise Matthews.

The trio were born within 13 days of each other, all to players of the same Poole cricket team.

As they approach their ninth birthdays, the girls are now stepping out to the crease to follow in their fathers’ footsteps.

“When we had three mums walking around the boundary all expecting babies, we assumed at least one of them would be a boy,” said Nick Williams, the club’s youth co- ordinator and Lizzie’s dad.

“But I’ve been running children’s coaching sessions and the girls have shown a real enthusiasm for the game.”

Poole Town have now entered teams into the county’s under-11 and under-14 girls leagues and are expecting great things from the home-grown talent.

“Who knows, we may have some future women’s Ashes winners in there,” said Nick, who still plays for Poole along with the other dads, Julian Boyd and Steve Matthews.

Poole Town are still keen to attract new players for their girls’ set-up.
