FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze after a candle was left unattended at a flat in Bournemouth.

Crews from Springbourne, Christchurch and Redhill Park attended the scene in Southwood Avenue, Southbourne, at 3.20am on Saturday.

The fire was put out within 40 minutes and a fire service spokesman said there was damage to the room where it started.

The occupants of the flat were given shelter by a Red Cross fire service vehicle while the fire was put out.

Firefighters returned to the area on Saturday to give advice to residents.
