DICKENS’ famous character Oliver won’t be the only one asking for more as the smash hit musical makes its way to the south coast, the Daily Echo can exclusively reveal.
Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of the show will star Brian Conley as Fagin – and will come to the city on a nationwide tour for just one month.
The new version of Lionel Bart’s musical will wow crowds at The Mayflower, Southampton from May 1 to May 26 next year and tickets are now on sale.
Comedian, presenter, singer and actor Brian Conley is best known on the TV for playing Doug Digby in The Grimleys, his ITV show The Brian Conley Show, his hugely successful An Audience with Brian Conley and numerous Royal Variety performances.
His West End credits include roles in Hairspray, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Jolson.
The score of Oliver! is brimming with Lionel Bart’s irresistible songs including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I’d Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah and As Long As He Needs Me.
Cameron Mackintosh said: “It is 46 years since I appeared in the first national tour of Oliver! and this show has been close to my heart ever since.
“Little did I know then that I would one day be this brilliant musical’s producer and co-owner. Every time I produce the show Lionel Bart’s marvellous musical becomes a smash hit all over again, so I’m thrilled to bring you yet another spectacular new version starring Brian Conley.”
“Audiences are in for a spectacular show!”, added Bill Taylor, CEO of Stage Entertainment UK.
Oliver! recently completed a two-year run at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, where it opened to rave reviews, sell-out business and the biggest advance sales of all time for a West End show.
Last year it celebrated its 50th birthday.
