SHE’S 80 years old and her owners want to find out more about her life.

This Armstrong Siddeley 15HP was bought from Bournemouth’s Chine Motors in Old Christchurch Road and delivered to an R Dover on May 16, 1931.

Its current owners, Alan and Joyce Bird, of Southbourne, have owned it for two years and have its history back to 1966 – but nothing about the first half of its life.

Joyce said: “The document we’ve got says that Chine Motors had her on May 15, 1931 and on May 16 this person bought it. We think the signature is ‘R Dover’ and that’s all we know.

“We’ve spent hours in the library but not had much luck.”

Alan added that Chine Motors could have been taken over by another company.

Joyce said: “It’s been round and round the country and has come back to Bournemouth to retire.

“We saw her in a showroom in Parkstone and kept going back for about a year before we bought her.”

Armstrong Siddeley was founded in 1919 and merged with Hawker – the famous aircraft builder – in 1935.

More takeovers followed before the name disappeared in the 1960s.

The Birds’ car, which is the only example of the 15HP model known to be on the road, still has its original engine and chassis and was originally a chocolate brown colour.

It has been used for weddings in the past – something its current owners still do from time to time.

They also take it on runs and to shows, as well as enjoying it for picnics.

Alan said: “It’s that period between 1931 and 1966. We’ve got nothing apart from the fact that the engine was rebuilt in 1961.”

Joyce added: “We’re struggling now, which is a shame because she’s a local car.

“We’re trying to gather as much information as possible.

“We’ve struggled to put things together but at least she’s original and she’s come home to retire.”
