HEATHER Barnett’s son was yesterday heard by the courtroom describing the moment he found his mother’s mutilated body.

In a video interview which was recorded the day after Heather was killed, 14-year-old Terry told police officer Helen Davis and a social worker about the moments he and his sister Caitlin returned to their flat in Capstone Road from Summerbee School on November 12, 2002.

Terry said there was nothing usual when they arrived outside but once inside “the house was silent and I knew something was wrong. I didn’t like it”.

They checked the flat but there was no sign of their mum and he asked Caitlin: “Where is she?”

He said the bathroom door was closed and when they opened it he said he saw Heather’s leg and knew something had happened.

“My sister, she saw it and went absolutely ballistic.

“I saw her lying on her back and all the blood and shouted ‘Mum, Mum, Mum’.”

Terry told how he tried to get Caitlin away from the scene and they went outside as he dialled 999.

“I told them I wanted both police and ambulance. I told them my mum had been murdered.”

In the street they saw neighbour Fiamma Marsango and tried to explain what had happened.

He added: “Her boyfriend came over too, an Italian man.

“He grabbed me and my sister and we both started crying.

“It was at that moment the police arrived.”
