THEY’RE something of a five-star family.

As well as being five generations strong, this Christchurch family is also standing up for girl power – each eldest child is a female.

The line starts with Olive Martin, 91, who lives at the White Lodge and St Helen’s Nursing Home in Boscombe.

Among her 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren are daughter Mavis Rowland, 71, granddaughter Andrea Rogers, 46, great-granddaughter Kerry Griffiths, 24, and great-great-granddaughter Lexi Robinson, who is eight months old.

Andrea said: “I’ve been wanting to get everyone together for a while.

“I thought it was an interesting story.

“The five generations is not that unusual, but each having an eldest daughter is.

“It’s very special because we will all look back on it for years to come, especially Lexi when she’s older.”

Although there are still plenty of men in the family, it’s clear the women often hold sway.

Mavis added: “The men have to do as they’re told.”

The family came to Dorset in the early 1970s, when Olive moved down from Birmingham. Andrea and her parents followed soon after and soon called the area home – Olive lived in Southbourne before moving into the care home in Boscombe.

Andrea added: “I’ve read in papers over the years about four generations, but not with the same sex where we’re all first daughters, that’s what I thought was so unusual about it.”
