TOP Australian polo players will be battling it out with England’s finest at Poole’s British Beach Polo Championships.
The fourth spectacular event to take place on Poole’s Sandbanks beach on July 8-9 will be the first time the team from down under will fight chukka to chukka for international glory.
This will be the exciting finale to each days play, which will include two polo matches, a charity race, beach volleyball and the chance to have a go.
Polo is played in five states across Australia, which has around 50 clubs.
Professional polo player Glen Gilmore has captained his country’s team for the last 10 years.
He is chief umpire of the Guards’ Club in London and plays all the high goal tournaments in Australia.
“Australians are very comfortable in the saddle and on the beach,” said Glen.
“We are very excited about coming to Sandbanks this summer to take on the England Beach Polo Team. It will be a hard fought contest.”
The England team will again be captained by Jack Kidd, who said: “Last year we beat South America and I see no reason why we shouldn’t be equally competitive against the Australians.
“We have a strong team and are really looking forward to it,” he added.
The Daily Echo-backed event of high octane sport in the waterside arena on Millionaire’s Row, will end with beach parties hosted by London nightclub Amika.
The prestigious Kensington High Street club is also sponsoring the England team.
