A MAN had his arm broken in an attack with a baseball bat as he walked home from work through Poole.

The 26-year-old was smashed hard with the bat twice in an unprovoked attack close to Tower Park.

He had been heading home along Calluna Road when another man, wielding the bat over his shoulder, ran up and started hitting him.

Police say the attacker was unknown to the victim and the baseball bat assault appears to be completely unprovoked.

The victim, who eventually managed to run to safety, was later treated for a broken arm by emergency medical staff at Poole Hospital.

It is believed the bat thug climbed into a people carrier-style vehicle.

Police Constable Ben Sutton, who described the incident as a “nasty assault”, is eager for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “The victim has been left with a serious injury after this unprovoked attack.

“He was walking home from work when the offender ran up to him holding a baseball bat above his right shoulder.

“The victim raised his arms to defend himself but was struck twice.

“He ran away from his attacker and later attended Poole Hospital.”

The shocked victim suffered a fracture to his left forearm.

The incident happened last Wednesday, around 11.30pm but officers only released details of the attack yesterday.

PC Sutton said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this nasty assault, and anyone with any information about the man responsible, to contact me as soon as possible.

“Any information could help me bring the attacker to justice.”

The baseball bat thug is white and thought to be in his mid 20s, around 5ft 7ins, with a broad build and cropped black hair.
