TOURIST chiefs are hoping that Bank Holiday weekend forecasts for cloudy weather, coupled with rain showers, will not scupper families’ plans to set off for the seaside.
While today is expected to be dry and bright on the South Coast, cloudy conditions will prevail tomorrow and on Sunday with outbreaks of rain predicted for Monday.
Around 15 million cars are expected to take to the roads this weekend with the build-up of traffic likely to start this afternoon and congestion also likely between 10am and 2pm tomorrow.
According to Trafficmaster, the M3/M27/A31 from Winchester to the Dorset coast will be among the top five congestion hotspots.
Routes to the South West are expected to be busiest with more caravan traffic expected and some delays on roads to the coast and national parks.
Despite the changeable weather forecasts, a Bournemouth tourism spokesperson was upbeat.
He told the Daily Echo: “Whatever the weather Bournemouth is set for a busy weekend.
“Hotels and guesthouses are filling up fast, with some already fully booked but there are still rooms available. Many people will be booking last minute, depending on the weather.
“It appears that the forecasts aren’t deterring visitors who can indulge in a huge range of all weather activities and an extensive entertainment programme.”
