MORE than a quarter of a century after strutting his stuff as Fonzie in the American sitcom Happy Days, Henry Winkler is set to pay a visit to Bournemouth.

But, at the age of 65, it’s unlikely that the cool mechanic will be clad in his leathers during a book signing at Oakmead College of Technology on Tuesday, June 21.

While some Oakmead students may never even have heard of Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli, also known as Fonzie, The Fonz or Fonz, there’s no doubt that their parents, particularly their mums, will remember the star who left women weak at the knees.

Very few turned down his advances in Happy Days and his classic quotes ensured that Fonzie had shot to fame by the time the show ended in 1984.

At the start of the series, Fonzie was a high school drop-out and seen as a rebel but, after secretly attending night school, he eventually gained his diploma.

Although best known for his role as Fonzie, father-of-two Winkler is also a director, producer and author.

He will be giving a talk at Oakmead and signing copies of his books from 9am until 4 pm at an event organised by Waterstone’s, Oakmead school and Winkler’s publishers.

Katherine Jennings, events co-ordinator at Waterstone’s bookshop at Castlepoint shopping centre, said: “We are very excited that Henry Winkler is coming to Bournemouth; it’s brilliant that he is going to talk to Oakmead’s students.

“We can take reservations for signed copies of his books for those who are unable to meet him on the day.”
