WHEN it comes to the analogy of dogs hanging on to bones, they don’t come more determined than Councillor Ron Whittaker.
The crusader for skating facilities is again starting to think that his dream is not going to come true after all.
He is concerned that the delays in getting the scheme off the ground could scupper the proposed centre of excellence for ice sports planning for King’s Park.
Despite the relative success of temporary ice rinks in the town over the past few years, the kind of wet weather facilities the town centre desperately needs – typified by the future provision of these ice skating facilities - continues to divide the town.
With the Pier Theatre looking to make way for more modern indoor leisure facilities, Bournemouth needs to keep sticking its chin out and a clear picture of the proposed ice rink needs to be revealed.
The offical line is that there are currently three firms interested in investing in the ambitious project and the last thing this town needs is for another potential crowd-pleaser falling by the wayside like a number of leisure and retails developments in the past decade.
Ron Whittaker’s voice may be loud and insistent, but my main concern is that he doesn’t appear to have a chorus of approval backing him up.
Maybe a bit more vocal support from skating fans might demand more attention.
