A CAMPAIGNER says the police and council are each passing the buck to the other over illegal parking.

Alan Roberts from Bournemouth is trying to get a clamp down on drivers around Ensbury Park.

The 61-year-old said: “I’ve taken several photos of vehicles parked illegally – some with all four wheels on the pavement.

“I emailed the police and they said it was not a police matter, and that the council’s parking enforcement team should deal with it.

“So I contacted the head of parking enforcement and they emailed me back saying that illegal parking was a matter for the police.

“At the end of the day, nobody has done anything about it, and so it continues, much to the detriment of the disabled and other pavement users.”

Mr Roberts, a full time carer for his wife, said there are ongoing problems around Alton Road and Priestly Road.

He took the picture of the car on the pavement in Columbia Trees Lane.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team are aware of these concerns and have discussed the issues with the individuals concerned.

“The officers have spoken with other residents from whom no additional reports have been received.

“Safer Neighbourhood officers are bearing the concerns in mind when on patrol and will respond to any further reported offences.”

Elaine Smith, office manager for parking management and enforcement at the council, said: “The council is only able to enforce parking where a traffic regulation order is in place and this applies to pavements too. “We are aware that parking on pavements is a problem and we are currently looking at ways in which we can enforce against those motorists who choose to park on pavements in the future.”
