ORGANISERS of the Great Dorset Steam Fair have offered a new temporary site for travellers visiting the five-day heritage fair in August.
The site, to which travellers can be directed from unauthorised camps, will be accessed from the A354 Salisbury Road, north west of Tarrant Hinton.
A field used in recent years on the C25 Valley Road had proved unpopular with villagers in nearby Tarrant Monkton and Tarrant Launceston.
Martin Oliver, the managing director of the fair, which attracts an estimated 250,000 people, said: “We have offered to provide this site to help break the deadlock in identifying a site that is acceptable to all concerned.”
Dorset County Council has applied for planning permission to use the site for three weeks around the steam fair this year.
