A DANCER hit by complaints her act is too raunchy has backed a report released today calling for a tougher TV watershed.
Nicola Wills’ group Girls Roc made it through to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent and impressed Simon Cowell with their leotards, fire tricks and snake handling.
However a report by the Mothers’ Union, commissioned by David Cameron, is today demanding tougher measures to stop the ‘sexualisation of children’.
The report makes specific reference to the 4,500 complaints about Rihanna’s performance at the final of the X Factor in December.
Nicola, 26, from Corfe Mullen, said she was “shocked” that her act generated Ofcom complaints because she felt it was more ‘Carry On’-style cheekiness than raunchiness.
She felt the group – who were told what to wear – had been used to spice up the show and add some controversy.
However she added: “I do think there should be a warning saying it is now 9pm, and then people can’t complain.
“I don’t think they should just concentrate on talent shows though. What about music videos and gangster rap videos showing shooting and murders?
“My ex-boyfriend’s little girl was three but she would stand on her tip toes and wiggle her hips. She hasn’t got that from home, that’s what she has seen on TV.”
She added: “I do think British people are quite prudish compared to people in Europe – the body is seen as a natural thing there.”
The report recommends computers have parental controls turned on at the point of sale, and the introduction of age classifications for pop videos.
