MORE hidden treasure has been uncovered at the Lulworth Castle Antiques Roadshow – including a jug made from Oliver Cromwell’s horse worth thousands.
One young couple got a shock when an old leather jug they brought along to be valued was said to be worth between £20,000 and £30,000.
Paul Hoare and Samantha Barton from Bere Regis joined the 3,000-strong crowd at the event, being filmed for the popular BBC show presented by Fiona Bruce. The jug they presented to valuers dates back to 1653 and was apparently made from the favourite horse of Oliver Cromwell, commander of the New Model Army who overthrew Charles I. The jug had been passed down from generation to generation through Mr Hoare’s family.
Mr Hoare said: “I have known it all my life.
“I remember it on my granddad’s table. I also remember it being in the old shed and never thought it was valuable.”
Weymouth resident John Harington brought along a miniature “monkey” bike – a low-powered motorcycle, which had allegedly once belonged to John Lennon. Mr Harrington is adamant that he has the papers to prove that his is the Honda that John and Julian were once photographed on together. The show can be seen on BBC1 later this year.
