SRI LANKAN sensation Muttiah Muralitharan, widely regarded as the finest Test Match bowler of all time, was facing down batsmen from Wareham Cricket Club yesterday.

The Purbeck team, who welcomed Sky Sports’ cameras to their Wareham training session on Tuesday, travelled to the Middlesex Cricket Academy yesterday morning to film net sessions for the satellite channel’s Cricket AM show.

In the Middlesex nets, they also experienced how it feels like to be on the business end of deliveries by England bowler Graham Swann.

After the training session, Wareham Cricket Club’s William Hector, explained: “They were making a story about the club and interviewing the main players.

“They also brought their speed gun, which is a machine designed to read the speed of cricket players when bowling.

“This is a competition around the country to see who the fastest club cricket bowler is and all the Wareham players will be taking part.”

The team members taking part in the two days of filming were Will Hector, Jack Hector, Steve Bishop, Matt Truman, Dan Pope, Matt Beard, Oli Britt, Charlie Parsons, Mike Collier and Nigel Harris.

“Wareham got the chance to bat in the nets against these cricket stars,” said William Hector.

“We also had the chance to meet them behind the scenes. This is an exciting, one-off event, that cricket teams going on Cricket AM have never been invited to before, so we were very excited for this opportunity.”

On Saturday the club will be live on Sky Sports HD1 and Sky Sports 1 for the show Cricket AM.

Footage from Tuesday and yesterday will be shown in the programme.
