FRESH plans have been submitted for a multiplex cinema, shops and restaurants next to Bournemouth’s Pavilion – under the new name of The Nautilus.

Developer the Trevor Osborne Group has submitted an amended planning application which it says will improve the look of the building planned for the Bath Road side of the Bournemouth Pavilion site.

Odeon Cinemas are among the tenants signed up for the scheme, which would mean the closure of the town’s two Westover Road cinemas if it went ahead.

The developer says 80 per cent of the floor space either has tenants agreed or is in the hands of solicitors.

It says latest amendments to the plans include:

• Moving the upper floors towards Bath Road, so as to “bring the gardens closer” to the Pavilion.

• Improving the Bath Road frontage, with a large windows, and a galleria running through to Westover Road.

• Improving the landscape architecture.

• Moving elements such as the cinema and the car park further into the building and underground, so as to improve the external appearance.

The development will be named The Nautilus after the spiral shape in its design, which the developer says is like a nautilus shell.

A statement said: “The vision for The Nautilus is one of a modern, world class space that people of all ages will enjoy visiting and will become an iconic feature in the town, attracting a wide audience both locally and from the surrounding area.”

Mr Osborne said: “We are confident that the latest plans will be favourably received. The changes we have made enhance the designs yet further to create an iconic space which will attract and benefit the community of Bournemouth and its visitors.

“Our aim is to create a landmark building and to kickstart the regeneration of Westover Road.”
