‘Estupendo’ the Dorset Young Enterprise company from Corfe Hills School were placed a fantastic 3rd overall at the South West regional competition.
They fought of the best companies from across the region to also win the award for best financially managed company. The students said: "It was a fabulous experience and every team was brilliant, it was competitive and challenging but worth every second."
Their company of 4 students have set up and managed a discount card scheme for businesses and residents in the Broadstone area. Their advisors are Sasha Morgan from New Driver and Ian Glen from the 288 Group.
Sasha said: "As a former participant in YE as a student many moons, I know that the experience of developing and running your own company is a skill that lasts long after the competition has ended and that the lessons learnt are lifelong ones."
‘Estupendo’ were one of the 20 Young Enterprise companies formed in Dorset by school pupils in September last year. Young achievers aged between 14 – 18 have the opportunity to set up and run their own company over the course of 1 academic year.
Advised by a local business volunteer they will sell shares, become a company director, develop, research and market a product before selling it locally or even Nationally. Young Enterprise would like to thank all the advisors and schools involved in the 2010/11 programme, without their support these young people could not take part.
The programme is set to expand and develop again next year in what promises to be another competitive and exiting year. Who will be next years champions?
Volunteers are sought to advise these young people who not only learn valuable business and enterprise skills but also key skills such as organisation, communication and team work.
If you think you can spare 2 hours a week please see www.young-enterprise.org.uk for more information and contact Hannah.cook@yesw.org.uk for how to get involved.
