A FILM about a man having a midlife crisis may not sound too unusual, but when that man is troubled star Mel Gibson and he spends most of the film performing with a glove puppet on his hand, you know The Beaver is going to be pretty offbeat.

Gibson plays Walter Black; a man well and truly over the edge in Jodie Foster’s third directorial outing.

Walter is a toy executive who implodes with depression and makes life unbearable for his wife (Foster) and teenage son, before getting thrown out of the family home. After a failed suicide bid, Walter returns but takes on a new persona in which he communicates through a beaver hand puppet as a form of therapy.

IF all that sounds a bit on the heavy side, Cameron Diaz revisits her comedy roots in Bad Teacher.

Diaz plays Elizabeth Halsey, who returns to her high school teaching job after getting dumped by her rich boyfriend, to save money for boob job.

As the title of the film suggests, she’s really not cut out for her role of mentor to impressionable minds as she curses, plots and blackmails her way through. Stars Justin Timberlake and Jason Segal.

BRIT flick Swinging With The Finkels tells the story of Martin Finkel (Martin Freeman) and his wife (Mandy Moore) who are stuck in a rut and decide that in order to reinvigorate their marriage, they should give swinging a go.
