THE pensioner who was critically injured at his Poole home earlier this week died of stab wounds, it has been confirmed.
Police named the victim, yesterday, as 70-year-old Peter Richard Jordan.
Police are no longer treating the incident as suspicious and a 67-year-old woman who was initially arrested has been released without charge.
Officers and paramedics were called to Mr Jordan’s home, in Vicarage Road, Oakdale, on Wednesday morning, following reports that an elderly man had sustained serious injuries.
Mr Jordan was late pronounced dead at Poole Hospital.
A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed yesterday: “An inquest was opened and adjourned at 12.30pm at the coroners court in Bournemouth.
“Evidence was heard that 70-year-old Peter Richard Jordan, from Poole, had died at Poole Hospital on June 15.
“The cause of death was listed as stab wounds.”
In the aftermath of the tragic incident, police sealed off the bungalow and its surrounding grounds, to enable forensic officers to carry out extensive tests of the scene.
The couple had lived at the property for around four decades, neighbours said.
One neighbour told the Daily Echo: “They were just a really nice, quiet couple.
“I cannot believe that something tragic has happened to them.”
