THIS weekend sees the great outdoors come indoors for a series of special family concerts by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. The award-winning ensemble is transforming Lighthouse in Poole into a verdant outdoor arena.
A grassy lawn will cover the floor, lasers and lights will recreate a sunset and moonrise and as the first notes float into the air this indoor outdoor concert with a difference will bring some of the best music in the world to a rapt audience. Informality, food and drink are the order of the day at this classical choral spectacular; an evening that aims to recreate a proms in the park experience.
Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, celebrating 100 years of music-making, joins the BSO to perform Puccini’s Humming Chorus from Madam Butterfly and Verdi’s Triumphal March from Aida; as well as Parry’s I Was Glad.
John Williams’ Star Wars Suite and Raiders of the Lost Ark; and Badelt’s stirring Pirates of the Caribbean represent the modern classic, while Rossini’s William Tell Overture will evoke memories of The Lone Ranger.
On the Saturday afternoon there is also a short children’s concert by the very popular ensemble the Mini-BSO – The Thrill of the Orchestra II – ideal for concert-goers aged between six and 12, who are bound to enjoy this very unusual concert experience.
There are two performances of this Classical Choral Spectacular, on Friday and Saturday, at 7.30pm, and two types of tickets are available.
Lawn tickets are unreserved and you can bring your own chairs to place on the grass; while balcony tickets are more conventional reserved seating. Call Lighthouse Box Office on 0844 406 8666 or visit bsolive.com
