CIVIC leaders have promised to scrap unpopular plans for further parking restrictions on a Poole housing estate.

Residents were dismayed to learn Borough of Poole officials were proposing more double yellow lines on Creekmoor’s Millfield estate.

Neighbours are still smarting after the council introduced the dreaded double yellows across much of the estate two years ago.

So the latest proposals, to paint double yellows on the estate’s five turning circles, where many residents park outside their homes, caused public outcry.

Father-of-two Shaun Connolly was just one of the Millfield residents who attended the recent Creekmoor Area Committee meeting, where the restrictions were debated.

He said: “At this meeting it was unclear what was going to happen, but they seemed to vote against the plans.

“However, I still want something in black and white because I don’t believe half the things the council says.

“A couple of years ago, when they took the majority of the parking away, they said they were going to make sure we had as much parking as possible – we got 24 spaces but they took away parking for 88 cars.

“We got railroaded last time. I want to get something in black and white saying we will not be railroaded again.”

After the Daily Echo stepped in to quiz parking chiefs, Borough of Poole ward councillor John Rampton confirmed double yellows were no longer on the agenda for Millfield.

They had been proposed as part of a wider area transportation plan, but after residents made their feelings clear, councillors voted against the move.

Cllr Rampton stressed: “Double yellow lines should only be a last resort and after a thorough debate at area committee, members unanimously voted to delete any further yellow lines on Millfield from the considered transportation programme.”
