DETECTIVES have made a fresh direct appeal for witnesses to the killing of Poole chef Glyn Helliwell to step forward.
It comes as officers continue to question a third man who was arrested in connection with the incident on Tuesday.
Glyn, 42, who worked at the Bistro on the Beach in Southbourne, was found dying from stab wounds in Parkwood Road in the early hours of Wednesday, July 6.
He was rushed to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital but died later.
DCI Kevin Connolly, who is leading the investigation, said yesterday: “I am appealing to anybody who was in this area during late Tuesday evening into the early hours of Wednesday to get in touch.
“You can come forward and it’s really important that you do come forward.
“Whether you were there in any capacity whatsoever, you need to come and speak with me. Whether you saw the ambulance arrive and you thought that it all looked over – it isn’t.
“If you were in Woodside Road, Parkwood Road or West Road, particularly around the junction, then I need you to come forward and speak to us.
“We believe that there were people in the area prior to the arrival of the ambulance service. If you were there we need to speak to you.”
DCI Connolly said he is keen to hear from anyone who has been asked for a cigarette in that area during the late evening or early hours in recent weeks.
He added: “This is an unprovoked attack and there’s no reason to think that Glyn caused anybody any difficulties. He was attacked without warning, which is why we are taking this crime so seriously.
“We need to get to the bottom of what’s happened and bring the offenders to justice.
“We believe that at about 12.40am on Wednesday, 6 July, there may have been a disturbance relating to this incident at the junction of Woodside Road, Parkwood Road and West Road.”
Two men – aged 21 and 28 – were arrested and have been released on police bail.
A second 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
On Tuesday the Echo reported what was believed to be Glyn’s missing mobile phone was found at a business in Pokesdown. Crime fighting charity Crimestoppers also put up a £5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 01202 222222 or Crimestoperrs on 0800 555111.
